Lost in a Labyrinth? Cornwall’s Kerdroya Opens to the Public
A Monumental Celebration of Cornish Landscape and Heritage
From 21st March 2025, visitors will be able to experience Kerdroya, The Cornish Landscape Labyrinth, a breathtaking land art installation celebrating Cornwall’s geology, ecology, and heritage. Situated at Colliford Lake, St Neot, Liskeard, PL14 6PZ, this unique project showcases traditional Cornish hedging techniques, with more than 140,000 stones laid by hand to create a 445-metre-long labyrinth.
A Masterpiece of Cornish Hedging
Designed by Will Coleman, the creator of The Man Engine, Kerdroya is an enduring tribute to Cornwall’s centuries-old craft of stone hedging. The 56-metre-wide labyrinth has been crafted by master hedgers, community groups, and skilled artists, using traditional methods to reflect Cornwall’s diverse geology, flora, and fauna.
Will said: “The appeal of Kerdroya is multi-faceted. It’s communal, spiritual and educational. It is a tribute to Cornwall’s timeless craft of stone hedging, a tradition as enduring as the granite kingdom itself. Every stone laid carries a story. It’s our landscape and our heritage, woven together, for the next 4000 years.”
Visitors can follow a 750-metre path to the labyrinth’s centre, where they will discover a unique engineered art piece by local father and son team, Thomas and Gary Thrussell. From there, the site offers panoramic views of Colliford Lake and the rugged Bodmin Moor landscape.

A Journey Through History and Myth
The name Kerdroya comes from historic turf mazes, known as Troy Town in English and Caerdroia in Welsh. This ancient labyrinthine design has roots in Egyptian and Greek mythology – fitting for a structure set in Cornwall’s land of legend, Bodmin Moor.
Visitors can also download the Places and Trails app to learn about the different styles of Cornish hedging and read personal messages left by hedge pledgers, who have sponsored sections of the labyrinth with dedications.
Will added: “Kerdroya is more than just a place to visit – it is a place to reflect, to reconnect, and to celebrate Cornwall’s landscape and spirit.” In Cornish, he shared: “Yn milhyntal yth omgellir, yn Kerdroya yth omgevir” (In a maze you get lost, but in a labyrinth, you find yourself).

The Next Phase – Support Needed
Although the site is now open, the Kerdroya project is still evolving, and more funding is needed to complete its full vision.
“Allowing public access to Kerdroya is a major milestone in the evolution of Kerdroya. However, we’re not done yet, and we do still need more funding to be able to continue the work and bring our vision to its full reality.”
