Discover the Future of Lithium: Cornwall Leads the Charge in 2024
Cornish Lithium, a trailblazer in mineral exploration and development, has reported an impressive start to 2024, pushing forward its strategic projects in Cornwall.
The company is playing a crucial role in the UK’s efforts to establish a domestic supply chain for lithium and other essential minerals, critical for the energy transition.
Geothermal and Hard Rock Projects Gain Momentum
Geothermal Developments: The beginning of 2024 has seen notable advancements in Cornish Lithium’s geothermal projects. The Cross Lanes Farm, previously known as the Twelveheads Project, has been selected for a pioneering lithium in geothermal waters Demonstration Plant. The planning process is in progress, involving local community engagement. Another site at Tolgus, near Redruth, has received planning permission for lithium exploration, with drilling expected to commence in May.
The company has confirmed commercial concentrations of lithium at its Blackwater project, although flow rates were lower compared to those at Cross Lanes Farm. This has led to the decision to establish a processing plant at Cross Lanes Farm. RSE Shears has been appointed to manage the Front End Engineering Design study for this plant.
Hard Rock Project Advances: The Trelavour Hard Rock Project is also seeing significant progress. The Demonstration Plant at this site is nearing completion, with its hydrometallurgical section already on site. This section is partially funded by a grant from the UK Government’s Automotive Transformation Fund. The commissioning of the entire plant is scheduled for July 2024.
Corporate Changes and Community Engagement
Leadership Updates: Following Ian’s departure to focus on his new role as CEO at Endeavour Mining, Jeremy has taken over as the interim Chairman and CEO of Cornish Lithium. The search for a new independent Non-Executive Chairman is ongoing. Additionally, Keith Liddell has rejoined the board as a Non-Executive Director, bringing extensive experience in mineral project management.
Community and Environmental Commitment: The company continues to prioritise community engagement, with a Community Liaison Group established to facilitate communication and feedback from local residents. The 2024 Cornish Lithium Community Fund has distributed grants totalling £17,775 to 13 local organisations, demonstrating the company’s commitment to supporting the community.
Looking Ahead
With the strong foundation laid in early 2024, Cornish Lithium is confidently advancing towards achieving significant milestones throughout the year. The company’s activities not only bolster the UK’s lithium supply chain but also bring substantial technological and community benefits, positioning Cornish Lithium at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition strategy.
