Imerys British Lithium plans on view in Bugle
Imerys British Lithium (IBL) has announced a series of public consultation events to unveil its plans for establishing the world’s first integrated lithium quarry and production plant.
The initiative aims to transform land previously dedicated to clay extraction into a pioneering lithium processing facility. The next event is set for Monday, March 25, from 2 to 7 pm at Bugle Village Hall, inviting all interested parties to view the plans and engage directly with the project’s expert team.
IBL’s consultation process is designed to incorporate feedback into the planning application, expected to be submitted next year. The expert team, comprising specialists in planning, geology, processing, and management, will be available to answer questions and discuss the project’s details.
The consultation schedule includes additional events across the region to ensure broad community involvement:
- Penwithick Community Centre – 18 June
- Treverbyn Community Hall – 31 July
- Trewoon Village Hall – 21 August
- St Dennis – 11 September
- St Stephen – 23 October
- Fraddon – 4 December
These events underscore IBL’s commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship. The company has been operating a pilot plant near Roche for two years, successfully producing high-quality lithium carbonate. This new project represents an expansion into full-scale production, emphasising sustainable practices and minimal environmental impact.
As part of its environmental commitment, IBL is conducting a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment to inform its proposals. Key initiatives include preserving Hensbarrow Beacon from development and repurposing the derelict Grade II listed miner’s cottage at Hensbarrow Farm into a visitor centre, demonstrating IBL’s dedication to community and heritage as it moves forward with this significant project.
