Lifeboat Crew Respond to Medical Emergency

A fishing trip in Looe Bay took a dramatic turn on Monday, 23 September, when an angler on a small boat began to feel unwell. The group of three anglers, recognising the need for assistance, contacted Falmouth Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) for advice as they were unsure whether they could safely navigate into the river due to the low tide.

Lifeboat Launched to Assist

Following the call for help, the RNLI volunteer crew from Looe Lifeboat Station launched their D Class inshore lifeboat, Ollie Naismith II, after being tasked by Falmouth MRCC to assess and assist the situation. The crew quickly reached the scene and boarded the anglers’ boat to carry out a casualty assessment and provide necessary care.

Escort Back to Looe

Despite the low water levels in the river, the lifeboat crew managed to escort the anglers back to Looe, where there was just enough water to moor by the landing pontoon. The unwell angler was safely brought ashore and taken to the lifeboat station, where he was handed over to the care of the South Western Ambulance Service.

The quick response and teamwork of the RNLI volunteers ensured that the angler received prompt medical attention.
