Looe RNLI Lifeboat Station benefits from £2,000 donation from C Toms and Sons

A generous £2,000 donation from Polruan-based boatyard C Toms and Sons has given a much-needed boost to Looe RNLI Lifeboat Station, helping to fund vital new equipment.

Strong local ties to lifesaving work

Situated on the eastern banks of the river Fowey, C Toms and Sons has long supported the RNLI, with all-weather lifeboats often seen at the yard for hull cleaning or repairs.

Rachel and Paul Toms said:

“As a business working in the marine industry it is important for us to support our local RNLI stations with the valuable lifesaving service they provide to all seafarers. As such we are thrilled to be able to assist Looe RNLI with the purchase of new equipment for their lifeboats.”

New stretchers funded by donation

Looe RNLI’s Lifeboat Operations Manager, Clive Palfrey, welcomed the donation, noting its immediate impact.

“We would like to thank everyone at C Toms and Sons boatyard for this wonderful donation. This valuable support enables us to continue our key role of saving lives at sea off the South East Cornwall coastline. This timely donation will be put to good use as the plastic stretchers on each of our inshore lifeboats have reached the end of their operational life and are being replaced at a significant cost.”

Perfect timing for a thank you

By coincidence, Rachel, Paul and Evie Toms were visiting Looe Lifeboat Station on Sunday morning, 27th July, just as the Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Sheila and Dennis Tongue II returned from a call-out. The crew were able to thank them in person and give them a tour of the lifeboat, now equipped with the newly installed plastic stretchers.

The donation highlights the ongoing support from Cornwall’s marine industry to the RNLI’s lifesaving work around the coast.
