Late Night Lifeboat Launch After Concern Over Person in River Near Banjo Pier
Late last night, volunteer crews at RNLI Looe Lifeboat Station were called out to investigate concerns for a person seen in the river near Banjo Pier. The alert came shortly after 10.53pm on Wednesday, 2nd October 2024, just as the crew had completed their evening training session and switched off the boathouse lights.
Quick Response to Concerned Call
Falmouth Coastguard received the report, prompting the rapid deployment of the RNLI’s D Class inshore lifeboat Ollie Naismith II. The volunteer crew quickly returned to the station to launch the boat and headed down the river to investigate.
Angler Spotted, No One Else Found
Upon arrival near the river estuary, the crew spotted an angler in the water. After confirming that the angler was not in any difficulty, the crew informed the coastguards of their findings. A quick shoreline search followed, but no further individuals were found in the area. The crew was stood down and returned to the station, switching off the lights again at around 11.30pm.
This incident has been treated as a false alarm with good intent, with the RNLI praising the initial call to the coastguards for their vigilance.
