Lifeguard Patrols End for the Season on Looe Beaches
RNLI lifeguards have finished their summer patrols on some of Looe’s most popular beaches. The 29th September marked the final day for lifeguard cover at Tregantle, Sharrow, and Seaton beaches, where they have been ensuring the safety of locals and visitors throughout the season.
Weekend Patrols Continue on Tregonhawke Beach
While patrols have ended on several Looe beaches, Tregonhawke Beach will continue to have lifeguard cover during weekends throughout October. In addition, lifeguards will be on duty during the full week of the half-term break, from 26th October to 3rd November.
Stay Safe This Winter on Looe’s Beaches
With the end of regular lifeguard patrols, the RNLI advises anyone visiting these beaches over the winter months to be extra cautious, as there will be no lifeguard cover. Key safety tips include:
- Stop and think: Check tide times, be aware of any local risks, and make sure you have a way to call for help if needed.
- Stay together: Always let someone know your plans and expected return time, especially if you’re heading out alone.
- FLOAT: If you find yourself unexpectedly in the water, try to stay calm and float to conserve energy and stay safe.
In case of emergencies, beachgoers are urged to dial 999 or 112 and request the coastguard. It’s essential to remember: No flags mean no lifeguards.
