Looe Raft Race Returns: Can You Build the Winning Raft?
The much-loved Looe raft race is making a splash once again, with teams invited to construct their own rafts and take on the challenge. The race is set for Sunday 22nd June at 3.20pm, promising an exciting afternoon on the water.
A Popular Event With a Purpose
Jointly organised by Looe RNLI fundraising volunteers and the Looe Boat Owners Association (LBOA), the event is a highlight in the town’s calendar, drawing in hundreds of spectators who gather along Banjo Pier and the quaysides for a prime view of the action.
Beyond the competition, the event serves an important cause—raising valuable funds for Looe RNLI Lifeboat Station. Each year, teams take to the water in homemade rafts, racing up the river in a mix of fun and friendly competition.
Classes, Prizes, and Fancy Dress
Participants can enter in multiple categories, including:
- Junior fun teams
- Adult fun teams
- Elite racers
As well as competing for victory on the water, teams have the chance to win trophies and prizes donated by local businesses and organisations. Awards will be given not only to race winners but also to the best fundraiser and best fancy dress team.
The Racecourse
The elite and adult teams will paddle from East Looe beach, heading up the river to a turn just beyond the bridge before racing back to the lifeboat slipway to finish. Junior teams will start from Little Beach, near the lifeboat station, before completing their own course.
How to Enter
Teams looking to take part can find more details and register their raft at Eventbrite.
Whether you’re racing for fun, competition, or fundraising, the Looe raft race promises a spectacular day on the water—will your team take home a trophy?
