Looe RNLI Volunteers Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary with Generous Donation

Published On: 15 October 2024Last Updated: 15 October 2024By

Barbara and David Jones, former fundraising volunteers for Looe RNLI Lifeboat Station, recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in a heartwarming way. Marking 60 years of marriage on 8 August 2024, the couple requested no gifts but suggested donations to Looe Lifeboat Station instead. This gesture has now resulted in a generous contribution to the lifeboat station, furthering their support for the volunteer crews who continue to save lives at sea.

Longstanding Service at Looe RNLI

Barbara and David have been dedicated to supporting Looe RNLI for many years in shore-based roles. Barbara started volunteering at the RNLI shop when it first opened in the Middleton’s Corner boathouse back in 1998. When the Albatross Lifeboat Station opened in October 2003, Barbara transitioned with the shop to its new home.

David, meanwhile, was a founding member of the boathouse guide team, formed around the time of the arrival of the Atlantic 75 inshore lifeboat, Alan and Margaret. He played a vital role in welcoming the public, giving tours of the lifeboats and the launch tractors housed at the Albatross boathouse.

Anniversary Donation to Looe RNLI

On their recent visit to the station, Barbara and David, accompanied by their grandson, Goron, who is also a volunteer crew member, handed over a donation of £406.25. The funds were presented to Marilyn Berry, a former fundraising committee secretary and shop volunteer, to support the station’s efforts in saving lives at sea.

Looe RNLI Lifeboat Station has expressed their congratulations to Barbara and David on their 60th wedding anniversary and extended their gratitude for the couple’s continued support.
