Steam Railway Workshop for Children Taking Place in Luxulyan This February Half Term
Kids Can Step Into Cornwall’s Steam Age This February
A hands-on railway workshop is taking place in Cornwall this February half term, offering young people the chance to explore the science and history behind steam power.
Cornwall Heritage Trust is running Full Steam Ahead – Discovery Club, a workshop aimed at children aged 8 to 14 with an interest in trains, engineering and Cornwall’s industrial past.
Following in Richard Trevithick’s Footsteps
The session invites children to follow in the footsteps of Richard Trevithick, learning about pioneering Cornish inventors and the engineering breakthroughs that powered the Age of Steam.
Through hands-on activities, participants will investigate how steam locomotives work by exploring models and taking part in an experiment demonstrating how steam engines are powered. The workshop also looks at the impact the railway had on Cornwall and how it shaped the county.
Creative Challenges to Finish the Session
The workshop concludes with a choice of creative challenges. Children can design a commemorative railway stamp, write a short story inspired by steam travel, or design a train for the future.

The workshop takes place on Wednesday 18th February, from 11am to 12.30pm, at Luxulyan Village Hall, St Cyriac, Luxulyan, Bodmin PL30 5QA.
