Red Lion Quiz Night Raises Over £1,100 for Children’s Hospice
The Red Lion in Mawnan Smith marked the end of a successful year of monthly pub quizzes by presenting a cheque for £1,120 to Children’s Hospice South West at a special Christmas quiz event in December 2025.
A Year of Quizzes Ends with a Festive Finale
Throughout 2025, quizgoers added to a growing charity pot each month, with the total revealed during a festive end of year quiz. The final evening included a raffle, games, mince pies and mulled wine, bringing the year’s fundraising to a close.
Amanda Masters, Area Fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West, attended the event to receive the donation on behalf of the charity.
She said:
“Thank you so much to all the patrons of The Red Lion for joining the quizzes throughout 2025, evenings like this really bring the local community together and the funds raised will help support babes, children, young people and their families when they need it most.”
Support from Local Fundraisers
The evening was supported by Sara and Paul McNulty of Toad Hall Cottages, who donated a large hamper to the raffle. Sara and Paul have supported the quiz throughout the year and are active fundraisers with the Falmouth Friends of Children’s Hospice South West.
The monthly quiz is organised by local regular Austen Osborne and has become a well established date in the village calendar, regularly bringing people together while raising money for good causes.
