Invitation to Take Part in the 2026 Speak Their Name Suicide Memorial Quilt

A New Quilt for 2026: Cornwall Invited to Remember Lost Loved Ones

People in Cornwall who have been bereaved by suicide are being invited to take part in the creation of a new panel for the Speak Their Name Suicide Memorial Quilt, which is planned for 2026.

The invitation follows the recent exhibition of the quilt at Truro New County Hall and is open to anyone living in Cornwall, or with a connection to Cornwall, who would like to honour a loved one.

How the quilt is created

Each person taking part is invited to create a single square to remember someone they have lost. Every square commemorates an individual life, and together they form the Speak Their Name Quilt as a shared memorial.

No previous experience of sewing or art is required. Participants are encouraged to bring hope, love and their loved one’s name. Each square is intended to be as unique as the person it represents. Creating through grief has been practised for centuries and is widely recognised as a cathartic and healing process.

How to take part

Anyone who would like to be involved is asked to email Estelle at newmoonuk@gmail.com, providing their name, address, telephone number and the name of the person they wish to remember. Estelle will then be in touch with further information.

Participants will also be invited to join a closed Facebook group, where details of planned workshops and support will be shared.

Organisers hope all quilt squares will be completed and returned by 30th April 2026, allowing time for the quilt to be assembled ahead of the Reflection Service for those bereaved by suicide, which is due to take place at Truro Cathedral in September 2026.
