Birdwatching Event Brings 21 Wildlife Enthusiasts to Mevagissey Harbour
A festive birdwatching event at Mevagissey Harbour brought together nature and wildlife enthusiasts for a successful and enjoyable day by the coast.

The event was organised by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, Founder and Chair of Connect with Nature, RSPB Kernow Local Group Leader, and Publicity Officer for Cornwall Bird Watching and Preservation Society. The fieldtrip was led by Rob Nicholls.
In total, 21 people attended the birdwatching session, spending time observing wildlife around the harbour.
Birds Recorded on the Day
Those taking part recorded 16 different species of birds. These included:

2 Black Headed Gulls

7 Cormorants

More than 200 Feral Pigeons

4 Fulmars

5 Gannets

5 Great Black-backed Gulls

3 Great Northern Divers

More than 60 Herring Gulls

More than 200 Jackdaws

1 Mallard Duck

4 Oystercatchers
-
3 Pied Wagtails

1 Rock Pipit
-
More than 20 Rooks

4 Shags
-
3 Turnstones
Festive Finish at the Harbour Tavern
Following the birdwatching, the group headed to the Harbour Tavern for a Christmas lunch. The afternoon included a Fun Wildlife Quiz and games.
The quiz was won by Sam Goldsworthy, Ryan Goldsworthy, Vyv Scawen, and Mike Scawen.
The prize for the most festive Christmas jumper went to Susan Andrewartha.
The event marked a seasonal get-together combining wildlife watching with a social celebration in Mevagissey.
