Three Bays Wildlife Group Hosts Birdwatching at Mevagissey Harbour

Connecting with Nature in Mevagissey

Nature enthusiasts gathered at Mevagissey Harbour for a birdwatching event organised by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, a volunteer for Three Bays Wildlife Group, Publicity Officer for Cornwall Bird Watching and Preservation Society, and RSPB Kernow Local Group Leader. The field trip was led by Rob Nicholls.

Participants were treated to sightings of 20 species of birds, including 5 Great Black-backed Gulls, over 90 Herring Gulls, 3 Black Headed Gulls, 10 Cormorants, 2 Shags, 3 Turnstones, 5 Pied Wagtails, 7 Rock Pipits, 6 House Sparrows, 1 Dunnock, 1 Starling, 1 Robin, 1 Mallard Duck, 4 Canada Geese, 11 Carrion Crows, more than 70 Jackdaws, 2 Ravens, 2 Rooks, 2 Wood Pigeons and over 30 Feral Pigeons.

Butterflies and a Cuppa to Finish

In addition to the birdlife, three species of butterflies were recorded: 2 Red Admirals, 2 Large Whites and 1 Small White. After birdwatching, Rowena shared tea, coffee and cookies for everyone to enjoy by the harbour.
