Winter Migrant Bird Species Recorded at Mevagissey Harbour
Five nature and wildlife enthusiasts enjoyed a productive birdwatching trip at Mevagissey Harbour over the weekend, despite unsettled weather conditions.
Organised Birdwatching Trip
The birdwatching event was organised by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, Founder and Chair of Connect with Nature, RSPB Kernow Group Leader, and Publicity Officer of Cornwall Birds. Rob Nicholls acted as the fieldtrip leader.
22 Bird Species Recorded
During the fieldtrip, the group recorded a total of 22 bird species. These included:

1 Caspian Gull

6 Cormorants

50+ Feral Pigeons

7 Fulmars

5 Gannets

14 Great Black-backed Gulls

5 Great Northern Divers

150+ Herring Gulls

1 Kittiwake

1 Mallard Duck

5 Oystercatchers

5 Pied Wagtails

1 Raven

1 Razorbill

1 Robin

1 Rock Pipit

5 Turnstones

1 Wren
Winter Migrants Create Excitement
The fieldtrip generated particular excitement due to sightings of a Kittiwake and a Razorbill, along with two winter migrant species. These were an adult Caspian Gull and several Great Northern Divers.
Members of the group described the outing as one of their best birdwatching fieldtrips at Mevagissey Harbour.
Fieldtrip Ends on a Social Note
The event concluded with coffee and tea, cheese and crackers, and plenty of conversation about the birds seen during the day.
The trip highlighted the variety of birdlife that can be spotted at Mevagissey Harbour during the winter months, even in challenging weather conditions.
