Summer Delights at Minack: A Month Packed with Entertainment

July at the Minack Theatre promises an array of thrilling performances, from classic Shakespearean comedies to enchanting musical acts. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect this summer.

Shakespeare and Theatre Galore

As You Like It (1st-4th July)

Kicking off the month, The Duke’s Theatre presents Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, “As You Like It.” Set in the ancient Forest of Arden, this production promises music, mayhem, and a touch of madness as characters navigate love and identity, reminding us that “All the world’s a stage.”

London Assurance (8th-11th July)

Global Productions brings Dion Bouciault’s “London Assurance” to life. The story follows the pompous Sir Harcourt Courtley as he ventures from fashionable London, only to be charmed by the mischievous Lady Gay Spanker.

Love’s Labour’s Lost (22nd-25th July)

Stamford Shoestring Theatre wraps up the month’s Shakespearean offerings with “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” a comedy that explores the perils of denying one’s natural instincts, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.

Lanterns on the Lake (5th July)

Tyneside’s indie rock band Lanterns on the Lake, supported by Rowena Wise, will captivate audiences with their melancholic melodies and intricate instrumentation.

Dry Cleaning (12th July)

Inspired by bands like the Feelies and the B52s, Dry Cleaning delivers a raw, uncomplicated musical experience that stems from their garage rehearsal roots.

Cosmo Sheldrake (19th July)

Cosmo Sheldrake, a multi-instrumentalist and field recordist, offers a unique musical journey with sounds inspired by birds, whales, and even fungi. His performance ranges from anthems to haunting polyphonic songs.

This Flight Tonight (26th July)

Unique Performances

Operation Kernow (15th-16th July)

Minack Education Production presents “Operation Kernow,” where a group of surfers must deliver a secret message amidst a backdrop of songs from around the world. This performance celebrates communication and community, featuring local Cornish schools.

The Light Burns Blue (17th-18th July)

The Minack Acting Academy tells the true tale of 17-year-old Elsie Wright and her cousin Frances, whose faked photographs of fairies lead to a national media frenzy in The Light Burns Blue.

Rescheduled Performance

Roo Panes (30th September)

Originally scheduled for June, Roo Panes’ performance has been rescheduled to 30th September. Tickets are on sale now and are expected to sell out quickly.

Looking Ahead: Festival of the Sea

In September, Minack Theatre will host two weeks of special events celebrating 200 years of the RNLI. Stay tuned for more details on this oceanic extravaganza.
