The Minack Theatre is set to offer a month full of Cornish culture, captivating performances, and seasonal celebrations this October. From local folklore to festive music, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Celebrating Cornish Heritage

Kicking off the month, Scary Little Girls will bring to life a vibrant Penzance of yesteryear with “Duffy Beats the Devil.” The show features a mix of local legends, including Cherry of Zennor and witch Maggie Figgie, alongside national talent such as Johanne Murdock (His Dark Materials, Emmerdale) and Kate Rawson (Hall for Cornwall, Radio 4). This fun-filled performance, perfect for all ages, will transport the audience to a world of Cornish folklore, filled with humour, drama, and a healthy dose of magic.

Music and Song for All

On 4 October, Mad Dog Mcrea will take the stage with their signature blend of folk rock, gypsy jazz, and bluegrass. Known for their energetic performances and eclectic mix of songs about adventure, love, and life, they will be supported by Cornish sea-punk folk band JollyRoger. It’s set to be a night of lively music and foot-tapping tunes..

For those who love a good sing-along, 12 October will see the return of “Sing Along Minack,” featuring some of Cornwall’s best community singing groups and choirs. Men Are Singing, The Ministry of Song, Sing Falmouth, and Truro will lead the way in a showcase of brass bands and choral music, encouraging the audience to join in the fun.

Family-Friendly Performances

Families can enjoy a magical retelling of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” on 28 and 30 October. “The Tempest in a Teacup” is a one-man show by John Brolly, suitable for both adults and children. Expect fairies, monsters, and romance on a mysterious island in this unique adaptation of the Bard’s final masterpiece.

Youth Take the Stage

Rounding off the month, the British Theatre Academy and the Minack Theatre will present “Footloose: The Musical Youth Edition” on 1 and 2 November. This high-energy performance, inspired by the cult classic film, celebrates the exuberance of youth with popular hits like ‘Let’s Hear It for the Boy’ and ‘Footloose.’

What’s Next?

As Christmas approaches, the Minack Theatre will offer more seasonal shows, including “A Christmas Carol” and performances by the Pendeen Silver Band. Keep an eye out for tickets to the “Tales of Winter and Wonder,” featuring students from the Minack Acting Academy, which will be on sale soon.
