Coast FM Launches Fundraising Campaign to Secure Future of Community Radio in West Cornwall
Coast FM, the community radio station that has been the voice of West Cornwall since 2014, is calling on the public for urgent help to stay on air. The station has launched a crowdfunding campaign to secure its future as rising costs threaten to silence it.
A Station Run by Volunteers
Run entirely by volunteers under the Penwith Community Radio Station banner, Coast FM operates as a not-for-profit community interest company. It provides local news, entertainment, and valuable training opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds across the region.
“Without Urgent Support, We Could Go Off Air”
“Right now, we’re struggling,” said Alan Shepherd, Chairman of Coast FM. “We operate in a harsh commercial world, and the cruel economy is hitting us hard. Without urgent support, we could go off air.”
The fundraising drive aims to cover essential broadcasting costs, including licences, rent, electricity, and transmitter maintenance, as well as vital upgrades to ageing equipment.
Protecting a Local Legacy
Dave Pascoe, Director and Volunteer Manager, said: “Community radio is vital for connection, advice, and entertainment. We’re proud of our track record in helping people develop careers in radio and audio. This campaign is key to protecting that legacy.”
How to Listen and Support
Coast FM broadcasts 24/7 across West Cornwall on 96.5 FM and 97.2 FM, online, and through its mobile app.
