A free youth event focused on the ocean and marine conservation is taking place in Falmouth later this month, inviting young people to spend a day learning, exploring and getting involved.

Sensing the Sea comes to Falmouth

Marine Conservation Society is hosting Sensing the Sea, a free, ticketed event for young people at National Maritime Museum Cornwall on Saturday 24th January, running from 10am to 3pm.

The day is designed for anyone who wants to explore the ocean, learn more about marine conservation and understand how they can make a difference. Members of the Marine Conservation Society’s Youth Ocean Network will be leading activities throughout the event.

What the day includes

Those attending can expect a mix of learning and hands on experiences, including:

  • Marine related presentations

  • Interactive, multi sensory activities designed to be accessible for all

  • Opportunities to meet and connect with other young people

  • A guided sound walk and beach time, weather permitting

  • Time to explore the museum

Teas and coffees will be provided, with attendees asked to bring a packed lunch or use the museum café.

Hosted by a young ocean advocate

The event will be hosted by Rada, a young ocean optimist and founder of the Thalassophile Project, which focuses on making marine science and ocean knowledge accessible and inclusive.

Who can attend

The event is aimed at 13 to 25 year olds. Under 16s must attend with a guardian, while under 18s need parent or guardian permission. Organisers say all are welcome, and anyone outside the age range who would like to attend or has questions can email the Marine Conservation Society’s Youth Engagement Officer at katie.macfarlane@mcsuk.org.
