Newlyn Harbour Yacht Fire: Penlee Lifeboat Crew Supports Brave Rescue
On Friday, 21st June, at 6:30pm, the Penlee inshore lifeboat Mollie and Ivor Dent were dispatched by Falmouth Coastguards to respond to a yacht fire in Newlyn Harbour.
A couple aboard the yacht had been using a paraffin cooker when it caught fire, leading to a dramatic rescue effort.
Rapid Response
A person from a neighbouring yacht swiftly boarded the burning vessel, assisting the woman off before bravely returning to combat the flames with fire extinguishers. Concurrently, a crew from Penzance Community Fire Station, also tasked by Falmouth Coastguards, arrived promptly to handle the situation.
Lifeboat Crew Support
Though the lifeboat crew, helmed by Will Treneer and including volunteers Sam, Ashworth, and Natalie Pitman, were not directly involved in firefighting, they provided crucial support. The team stood by for the Fire Service, ensuring readiness for any further developments. At the lifeboat station, they assisted a paramedic in caring for those affected by the incident.
Aftermath and Safety
A spokesperson reported that those involved were understandably shaken but otherwise unharmed. However, some were taken to the hospital for precautionary checks for smoke inhalation.
This incident highlights the professionalism and readiness of volunteer lifeboat crews, who continue to support emergency services in critical situations.
