A New Era for Football in Newquay: AFC and Youth Teams Merge to Create a Stronger Club
Newquay AFC and Newquay AFC Youth have officially merged, forming a single club under the name Newquay AFC. This landmark decision brings all age groups—from the youngest Minnies teams to senior football—under one organisation, creating a clear and structured pathway for players as they progress through the ranks.
A Unified Future for Football in Newquay
With around 25 teams now under the Newquay AFC banner, the club is set to benefit from a stronger support system, shared resources, and a unified coaching approach. The move is being hailed as a positive step for the future of football in the town, strengthening both development opportunities for young players and the club’s long-term success.
Jack Hunter, Chairman of Newquay AFC, called the merger a “historic moment for football in Newquay.” He added:
“By uniting our efforts, we are creating a stronger, more cohesive organisation that is set up for long-term success. The opportunities this provides for our players, coaches, and supporters are extraordinary, and we are excited about the positive impact it will have across all age groups.”
Sharon Rivers-Redman, Chairwoman of Newquay AFC Youth, echoed this excitement, describing the merger as “an incredible step forward” for both the club and the community.
“This merger ensures every young player has a clear pathway to progress and be part of something truly special,” she said.
Investing in the Club’s Future
Newquay AFC has already invested around £60,000 in facility improvements, with the aim of securing Grade 4 status. Achieving this level would open up new funding opportunities, allowing for further enhancements to infrastructure and playing conditions. The club is also developing new sponsorship packages, membership options, and community engagement plans to strengthen its ties with local supporters and businesses.
The People Behind the Success
The club has emphasised the vital role played by volunteers, committee members, officers, and trustees in making the merger a reality. Their dedication ensures that grassroots football in Newquay remains strong, providing opportunities for players of all abilities to grow and develop.
As Newquay AFC embarks on this new era, the club is focused on fostering teamwork, excellence, and progression—giving players and supporters alike a footballing experience they can be proud of.
