Newquay Marine Group is inviting wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers to its upcoming Seaquest Southwest event, set to take place on Sunday, 7th April.

The gathering promises an enriching experience for all attendees, offering an opportunity to observe and learn about marine life at one of Cornwall’s scenic spots, Towan Headland. The event, scheduled to start at 11am, aims to bring people closer to the marine environment through firsthand observation and participation.

Binoculars at the Ready

Participants are encouraged to join the Seaquest team at Towan Headland, where they will be equipped with binoculars to spot a variety of marine wildlife. This event represents a unique opportunity for individuals of all ages to engage with the marine ecosystem and contribute to conservation efforts. Whether you’re a seasoned wildlife watcher or new to the wonders of the marine world, the Seaquest Southwest event is designed to offer an insightful and enjoyable experience.

A Decade of Marine Conservation

Seaquest Southwest, a project run by Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Living Seas Team, has been at the forefront of marine conservation for the past 10 years. Through public events, surveys, and activities, it seeks to achieve three main objectives: engaging people with the marine environment, collecting data on marine wildlife, and enhancing the understanding and conservation of marine wildlife. The project has successfully gathered extensive data on the abundance and distribution of marine megafauna along the Cornish coast, providing invaluable insights into the region’s cetacean population.

Engaging the Community

The initiative’s programme includes public seawatches, Seaquest Sunday surveys, and an annual recorders conference, among other events. These activities are designed to foster a deeper connection between the community and the marine environment, encouraging the collection of vital data for conservation efforts. For those interested in participating in future events or learning more about marine wildlife, Seaquest Southwest offers a seasonal timetable of events available on their website.

Join the Effort

This upcoming Seaquest Sunday at Towan Headland is more than just an event; it’s an invitation to be part of a larger movement dedicated to preserving our marine heritage. By attending, participants not only gain a deeper appreciation for marine life but also contribute to its ongoing conservation. So, mark your calendar for 7th April, and be part of an inspiring journey to protect and understand our marine world better.
