In a thrilling evening of back-to-back rescues, the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team was called into action at Fistral Beach, highlighting the critical role of emergency services in coastal areas.
Surfer Injured During Training Exercise
The first incident unfolded at 1848hrs on Wednesday, when the Coastguard was in the middle of their weekly training. They were urgently tasked to assist an injured surfer at Fistral Beach. The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust also responded to the emergency.
Upon arrival, the team found the injured surfer and provided immediate first aid. The surfer was then carefully stretchered off the beach to the nearby RNLI Lifeguards station at North Fistral. They were subsequently handed over to the ambulance service for further medical attention.

Second Emergency at North Fistral
As the situation with the surfer was being handled, another call for help was received at approximately 2015hrs. This time, a member of the public alerted the Coastguard to a potential casualty on the rocks at North Fistral.
A rapid search led to the location of the second casualty, who was quickly assessed by the rescue team. As the team provided essential treatment and stabilisation, both the Cornwall Air Ambulance and a land ambulance were dispatched to the scene. The casualty was then transported up the cliff and handed over to the ambulance service, ensuring they received the necessary care and were taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Community and Teamwork
By approximately 2145hrs, the Coastguard team was stood down, ready for their next deployment. The successful outcomes of these incidents were made possible by the swift and coordinated efforts of the Coastguard, the ambulance services, and the alertness of the public.
The Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team expressed their gratitude towards everyone involved and reminded the public to stay vigilant and safe.
Both casualties are hoped to make a speedy recovery, and the community is praised for their support and quick actions in times of need.
In cases of emergency, Newquay Coastguard advise dialling 999 and asking for the coastguard.
