Microplastics Everywhere? Fistral Beach Clean Highlights an Ongoing Threat

Published On: 23 February 2025Last Updated: 23 February 2025By

Fistral Beach Clean volunteers took advantage of the sunny weather yesterday for their February beach clean, removing litter from the dunes, beach, and surrounding paths.

22 Volunteers Take Action

A total of 22 volunteers turned up to help with the clean-up, focusing on different areas of Fistral Beach. While general litter was collected across the site, the dunes were found to contain some of the biggest discarded items.

Plastic Pollution at South Fistral

One of the most concerning discoveries was the amount of plastic waste found in the coves at South Fistral. Volunteers removed a large quantity of plastic, including microplastics and nurdles—tiny plastic pellets that are a major source of ocean pollution.

Support from Keep Britain Tidy and Boardmasters Beach Bar

The event was supported by Keep Britain Tidy and Boardmasters Beach Bar, helping to make the clean-up possible.

Fistral Beach Clean continues to carry out litter picks throughout the year, keeping the coastline free from waste and highlighting ongoing pollution issues.
