New Era for Newquay AFC? £50k Investment Promises Major Stadium Transformation
New 3-year deal with WAX Events aims to boost matchday crowds, attract sponsors and open the doors to new revenue streams
Newquay AFC has announced a major new partnership with local hospitality and events company WAX Events, set to begin at the start of the 2025/26 season.
The 3-year deal will see WAX take over all food, drink and event operations at Mount Wise Stadium – with plans already in motion to completely overhaul the matchday experience for supporters.
£50,000 Investment Into the Club
As part of the agreement, WAX Events has committed an initial £50,000 investment into club infrastructure. The funds will go towards a number of developments designed to grow the club both on and off the pitch.
Upgrades already underway include:
-
A refurbished clubhouse featuring 4K projectors, new furniture, an extended bar and a players’ lounge
-
A brand-new viewing deck with direct pitch-side access
-
Upgraded pitch-side bars and new street food-style menus
-
A full club rebrand and new website, offering online ticketing, news and merchandise sales
-
A pop-up club shop launching at the start of the season
-
Marketing support throughout the year to help raise the club’s profile
The clubhouse will also open throughout the week, becoming more of a hub for the local community.
Matchdays and Beyond
The club, currently sitting top of the league, has recently seen home crowds exceeding 500 spectators. With WAX now on board, the goal is to push those numbers even further – attracting new fans, sponsors and more community involvement.
Outside the football calendar, the partnership will allow for off-season events at the stadium. Early ideas include open-air cinemas, fan zones, fitness races and even Oktoberfest-style celebrations – providing a fresh revenue stream that will be reinvested back into the club.
“The Club Is a Sleeping Giant”
Jack Hunter, Chairman of Newquay AFC, said:
“We approached WAX because we feel the club is a sleeping giant. With their support, we’ll be able to reach the next level. The investment WAX is putting in will be game-changing for our off-the-pitch activities. They’ve already proven their approach works over at Truro City, and we can’t wait to get this partnership started.”
Scott Trayner, Head of Football Operations for WAX Group, added:
“Almost our entire events team is from Newquay, so when this opportunity came up, we jumped at it. For us, this isn’t about money – it’s about supporting an amazing club in a town we all love. The hardworking volunteers have brought the club to a great place, and we’re excited to step in and help take it further.”
What’s Next?
With a growing fan base, strong league performance and now a significant events partner, Newquay AFC is entering what could be its most ambitious chapter yet. The transformation of Mount Wise Stadium is expected to bring more life to the town – on matchdays and beyond.
