Newquay Coastguard Responds to Suspected Ordnance on Tolcarne Beach
On Sunday, 28th January 2024, the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team was deployed to Tolcarne Beach following reports of a possible ordnance discovery. The incident, which unfolded at 10:01 a.m., prompted immediate action from the Coastguard team to ensure public safety.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Newquay Coastguard team established a safety cordon around the suspected object, taking necessary precautions against any potential hazards. The situation required a thorough assessment by the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, who were promptly called to evaluate the item.
After a detailed examination, the EOD team determined that the object in question was not an ordnance. Following this assessment, the item was removed from the beach for further investigation, ensuring that no threats remained to public safety.
The Coastguard team was subsequently stood down, returning to their station by 2:15 p.m. The efficient and professional response of the Newquay Coastguard and the Royal Navy EOD team highlighted their readiness to address potential maritime hazards.
In light of this incident, the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team has issued a reminder to the public about beach safety. They advise that if anyone comes across something suspicious or potentially dangerous on the beach, they should immediately dial 999 and request the coastguard.
The emphasis remains on public safety and the importance of alerting authorities to any unusual or hazardous items found along the coast.
The successful resolution of this incident underscores the vital role of the Coastguard and EOD teams in maintaining coastal safety and their preparedness to respond to a variety of maritime emergencies.
