Newquay Cracks Down on Beach Boozing and Anti-Social Behaviour with New Radios

Extra security measures rolled out to beaches and town centre

Newquay BID has launched a new radio system aimed at clamping down on underage drinking, anti-social behaviour and low-level crime across the town’s beaches and high street.

The security radios were rolled out today, 5th June 2025, to all beaches within the Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) boundary. The move is part of a wider effort to boost safety and ensure faster communication between key services including beach lifeguards, police, CCTV operators and town rangers.

Funded with support from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, the new system is expected to significantly improve coordination during incidents and act as a visible deterrent to troublemakers.

Keeping Newquay safe

“These radios are a fantastic addition to our community safety toolkit,” said Mark Warren from Newquay BID. “They will help ensure quicker response times, better coordination, and a stronger deterrent presence, keeping our residents, local businesses, and visiting tourists safe throughout the year.”

As well as the beach coverage, Mark Warren confirmed that more radios will be issued across Newquay’s high street to support businesses and enhance security in the town centre during the busy summer season.

Continued investment in safety

The radios add another layer to Newquay’s existing safety setup, which already includes an extensive CCTV network, town ranger patrols and close collaboration with local police teams.

Newquay BID says the new equipment highlights its continued focus on making the town a safe, welcoming and enjoyable place for everyone who lives in, works in or visits one of the UK’s most popular coastal destinations.
