Newquay Zoo Wins Gold in Britain in Bloom Competition

Published On: 17 October 2025Last Updated: 17 October 2025By

Newquay Zoo has struck gold in its first-ever entry into the national Britain in Bloom competition, earning top honours for its vibrant planting schemes and dedication to both visitors and animals alike.

Gold on the First Attempt

Judges awarded Newquay Zoo a Gold medal, praising the Cornwall attraction’s beautifully designed landscapes that enhance the natural feel of animal enclosures while maintaining seasonal interest throughout the year.

The result reflects the skill and commitment of the zoo’s team, who continue to deliver high-quality experiences for visitors while managing the site with care and efficiency.

Head gardener Damian King said:
“To receive Gold in our very first attempt is beyond what we could have hoped for. We’ve worked incredibly hard this year to create spaces that not only look beautiful for our visitors but also provide enriching, natural environments for the animals in our care.”

Recognition Beyond the Gardens

The Gold award comes as Wild Planet Trust, the charity behind both Newquay Zoo and Paignton Zoo, seeks investment to secure the long-term sustainability of the two sites. Interest has already emerged from across the UK and Europe, and the win reinforces Newquay Zoo’s reputation as a well-loved, community-focused destination with strong potential for future growth.

It also marks a double success for Wild Planet Trust, as Paignton Zoo received the same honour. Catherine Mortimer, Curator of Gardens at Paignton Zoo, joined the judging team for the South West in Bloom Awards, highlighting the horticultural expertise within the organisation.

Visit and Support the Zoo

Newquay Zoo remains open daily, welcoming visitors to enjoy its award-winning gardens. With Halloween and Christmas events on the way, guests are encouraged to experience the zoo’s seasonal displays and support its future through visits, memberships, and animal adoptions.
