Newquay’s Street Art Trail Expands with Vibrant Third Mural
A New Addition to the MUQY Street Art Trail
The MUQY Street Art Trail in Newquay has unveiled its third mural, located on the back of Walkabout Newquay. Created as part of the Be Newquay Festival, this latest artwork completes the first phase of the trail, which features three distinctive murals by renowned street artists.
This colourful new addition was designed by Bristol artist 45 RPM in collaboration with the Newquay Girl Guides. The group contributed to the design by exploring what Newquay means to them, drawing inspiration from surfing, beach days, and the town’s laid-back, outdoor lifestyle. The finished piece showcases elements like palm trees, crabs, fishing nets, and camping, all brought to life in 45 RPM’s playful and illustrative style.
MUQY: A Celebration of Newquay’s Culture
The MUQY Street Art Trail, produced by Jack Tierney from Slapdash Studio and funded by Experience Newquay in collaboration with Newquay BID, celebrates the unique heritage and culture of the town. The project features three murals, each created by a different artist: Kleiner Shames, Elle Koziupa, and 45 RPM.
Jack Tierney explained, “We’ve loved bringing MUQY to life on the streets of Newquay… Kleiner Shames, Elle Koziupa, and 45 RPM have each brought their distinct styles to Newquay.” He added that collaboration with local community groups like the Newquay Girl Guides has been instrumental in creating these works.
The trail is part-funded by Cornwall Council through levelling-up funding and supported by Visit Newquay and Love Newquay.
Interactive Features for Visitors
To enhance the experience, QR codes will soon be installed at each mural location. These codes will direct visitors to Love Newquay’s website, where they can learn more about the inspiration and stories behind each piece. For those eager to explore the trail now, mural locations are already available online via Love Newquay’s website.
Plans for the Future
With the third mural now complete, Slapdash Studio and Newquay BID are looking ahead to 2025, when additional murals are planned for the town centre. The aim is to further expand MUQY as a celebration of Newquay’s identity and creative energy.
As Newquay welcomes this vibrant addition, the MUQY Street Art Trail offers both locals and visitors a unique way to explore the town while enjoying stunning public art. For more details, visit MUQY – Love Newquay.
