Pentire Residents Association Host Community Meeting on Sewage Discharge Concerns with South West Water
The Pentire Residents Association (PRA) has announced an open invitation for the public to engage in a Q&A session with Andy Pettifer, Operations Manager for West Cornwall at South West Water, following their Open Meeting at the Pentire Hotel.
Scheduled for 7:15 pm, the session aims to address pressing concerns about the water quality in Newquay, with a specific focus on the issue of sewage discharges affecting local beaches.
Addressing Sewage Discharges
The decision to invite non-members to this significant discussion stems from the increasing concerns among Newquay residents about the frequency and volume of sewage discharges on local beaches. The PRA has voiced the community’s alarm, highlighting that the Pentire area, in particular, seems to have been disproportionately affected. With Andy’s expertise, the meeting is set to shed light on the reasons behind the numerous discharges and the measures South West Water intends to implement to mitigate these issues.
Campaign for Cleaner Waters
The PRA’s campaign to secure bathing water status for the River Gannel underscores the meeting’s urgency. The association has requested Andy to outline South West Water’s concrete plans to reduce discharges significantly, focusing on the Crantock, Gannel, and Newquay Town beaches area. This initiative represents a critical step towards understanding the challenges and exploring solutions to improve water quality in the region.
A Platform for Concerns and Solutions
This meeting is heralded as an excellent opportunity for residents and interested parties to voice their concerns directly to South West Water and learn about the company’s future plans for environmental improvements in the area. The PRA encourages community engagement, emphasizing the importance of collective action in addressing environmental issues.
The Pentire Residents Association remains committed to advocating for the environmental health of Newquay’s waters, seeking transparent communication and effective solutions from South West Water to ensure the safety and cleanliness of local beaches for all.
