Trouble in Newquay: Police Shut Down Antisocial Hotspot in Town Centre

Visitors are now banned from entering a Newquay town-centre property after it became a magnet for antisocial behaviour, disrupting nearby residents.

Court Order Granted to Restore Peace

A three-month partial closure order was granted for an address on East Street on Wednesday 15th October, making it an offence for anyone other than the named tenant to enter the premises.

The order follows multiple reports to police of constant shouting, loud noise, suspected drug use and littering outside the property. There were also reports of gatherings where people would spill out onto the street to drink.

Police Response

PS Simon Andrews, who led the action, said:
“I hope this sends a clear message that ASB will not be tolerated and that we are taking action in response to what people are reporting to us.

“This constant behaviour was causing real harm to the wellbeing of the community, so it was important we took action.

“We will continue to work closely in the area alongside the tenant and local residents to deter future offences.

“Thank you to everyone who came forward to report to us – your information was vital in our investigation.”

Joint Investigation

The closure order was granted at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court following an investigation by the local Neighbourhood Policing team and the Council’s ASB Caseworker.
