Fire on Tuesday Afternoon
Emergency services were called to a blaze on Narrowcliff in Newquay at around 4.35pm on Tuesday 22nd July. The fire service alerted police to the incident, and on arrival, officers discovered the body of a man inside the property.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Suspicion of Murder Arrest Made
A 33-year-old man from Bolton has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He has since been released on police bail while further enquiries are carried out.
Police have confirmed that the cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious. A cordon remains in place at the property as investigators continue to gather evidence.
Detective Superintendent Jon Bancroft, the Force’s Senior Investigation Officer, said:
“Officers are continuing to carry out a number of enquiries in relation to this investigation.
“While a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently released on bail, we are keeping an open mind in relation to the circumstances surrounding the death, which we are currently treating as unexplained.
“I continue to ask anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage, doorbell or CCTV footage and any relevant information, to contact police and report anything that may assist us.”
