Volunteer Day – Friends of Fistral Dunes Aims to Conserve Local Environment
In an effort to preserve the natural beauty and ecological integrity of Fistral Beach Dunes, in Newquay, the Friends of Fistral Dunes group is organising a Volunteer Day this month, inviting community members to partake in various conservation activities. The event is scheduled for Sunday, 18th of February, starting at 10 am, with participants meeting amongst the Christmas trees at the north end of the dunes.
The conservation activities planned for the day include transplanting marram grass, conducting stabilising work on the dunes, and potentially engaging in other tasks, depending on the number of volunteers, available tools, and weather conditions. The group emphasises that no previous experience is necessary to participate, as there will be guidance provided for all activities.
Participants are advised to wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather to ensure comfort and safety during the event. Moreover, volunteers are encouraged to bring any spades, trugs (plastic buckets), gloves, and trowels they can provide, to assist with the planned activities.
Friends of Fistral Dunes is reaching out to the community for support, asking interested individuals to post their names below the announcement if they wish to join or if they have any questions regarding the event. The initiative is a testament to the group’s commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement, offering a hands-on opportunity for individuals to contribute to the preservation of one of the area’s most cherished natural landscapes.
The event represents a collaborative effort to ensure the sustainability and resilience of the Fistral Beach Dunes, in Newquay highlighting the power of community involvement in environmental conservation efforts.
