WAX Burner Obstacle Course Race Returns to Newquay With Kids’ Entry Option

A popular obstacle course race in Newquay is set to return this year, with a new option allowing children aged 10 and over to take part for the first time.

The WAX Burner will once again take place at Trewan Hall, offering muddy 5K and 10K challenges designed to focus on teamwork, confidence and having fun rather than speed.

A fun-first obstacle race

Participants can choose between a 5K or 10K route, with more than 30 obstacles spread across the course. The event encourages people to take part together, whether as friends, families, sports clubs or for team building, and entrants are welcome to walk, jog or run. Helping each other over obstacles is a key part of the experience.

Kids’ tickets launched after last year’s turnout

The decision to introduce tickets for children followed the success of last year’s event, which attracted large numbers of families and younger spectators.

Jordan Hammond from WAX said: “Last year we had loads of kids turn up just to watch. They were throwing paint, shouting at the adults and generally having a great time on the sidelines. It was pretty obvious they wanted to have a go themselves, so it felt right to open it up and let them take part this year.”

Children aged 10 and over will be able to enter the 5K route, with adapted versions of some of the larger obstacles created specifically for younger participants.

“We are not just chucking them onto the adult course. We will have versions of some of the bigger obstacles that are still a proper challenge, but done in a way that is safe and fun. It is the kind of thing they’ll go back to school bragging about,” Jordan added.

Tickets for adults and children aged 10+ are now available, with discounts offered for groups, families and charities.
