Why Are Diggers Returning to Porth Beach in June? Sand Pile-Up Forces Action
Work to Start 3rd June
Cormac has announced that sand clearance work will be taking place on Porth Beach from Tuesday 3rd June through to Friday 6th June, as part of their regular beach management activities.
The works are necessary due to the build-up of windblown sand, which can cause problems for nearby properties, restrict access to the beach, and obstruct the highway. The natural movement of sand on Cornwall’s coastlines means this kind of maintenance is required to keep things running safely and smoothly.
Why the Sand Needs Clearing
The team from Cormac will be relocating sand into mounds along the edge of the stream channel. This helps to ensure safe access, maintain the flow of water from the local stream, and protect nearby properties.
As in previous years, these sand mounds are expected to naturally weather down and settle back onto the beach over the course of two to three weeks, depending on the weather.
Access and Safety During the Works
Public access will be controlled while the work is carried out, and beachgoers are being asked to follow on-site signage to help keep workers and others safe.
Cormac added: “We will make every effort to minimise disruption and complete the project as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time.”
Anyone with questions about the work can contact the beach management team directly at beachmanagement@cormacltd.co.uk.
