From Crime to Care: Former Assistant Chief Constable Joins Cornwall NHS Board

Former Assistant Chief Constable Julie Fielding has taken on a new role as a non-executive director on the Board of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Extensive Policing Background

Julie’s career in policing spans both Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police. Having held several significant roles, she served as the Commander for Policing in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, where she managed serious crimes, public protection investigations, and major incidents. Julie retired from the force as Assistant Chief Constable.

Speaking about her appointment, Julie said: “I am delighted to be joining the board of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and working with partners, communities and staff to ensure that we deliver the very best services to patients.”

Champion of Community Safety and Wellbeing

Throughout her career, Julie has led numerous high-profile initiatives aimed at improving safety and wellbeing. Her leadership roles have included chairing the Community Safety Partnership and the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Strategic Group. She has also played a key role on the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Health and Wellbeing Board and contributed to the Public Sector Leadership Programme.

Julie is a qualified coach and has been an advocate for wellbeing services, particularly for frontline officers and staff during her time in the police force.

A Growing Leadership Portfolio

Beyond her policing career, Julie has held governance roles within higher education. In July 2021, she joined the Board of Governors at Falmouth University. By August 2023, she had become the Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors and Senior Independent Member.

Her three-year appointment to the Board of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust began in December 2024, further expanding her contributions to public service in Cornwall.

Julie’s extensive leadership experience and commitment to community wellbeing are expected to bring valuable insights to the Trust’s operations.
