Garner Ward Recognised for High Standard of End-of-Life Care
Garner Ward has been recognised for delivering a high level of care to people in the final years of life, picking up a prestigious award at the GSF Conference and Awards Ceremony in September.
Gold Standards Framework Success
The award follows the ward’s successful completion of the Gold Standards Framework accreditation assessment. GSF is a registered charity focused on helping people in the UK live well before they die and ensuring they are able to die well in the place and manner of their choosing.
The ward’s accreditation is described as the result of tenacity, team work and collaboration.
The Gold Standards Framework was introduced to the ward by ward manager Sheena Harper and Dr Ana Emberton.
Celebrating the Team
Sheena attended the awards with Saffron Clemo, the GSF link nurse, and Tracy Craddock, the GSF link HCA for Garner Ward.
Speaking about the achievement, Sheena says:
“Through the hard work, compassion, and dedication of the whole team we have now embedded GSF on the ward and gained our accreditation. We will continue to maintain and improve on our achievement, helping our patients to live well during their illness and that their relatives are supported and included in their care from admission through to discharge.”
“We aim to help our patients to live as well as possible, whatever stage of life or illness they are in. GSF helps to provide structure and language for early conversations about individual wishes and preferences. We know that the impact of our care will remain with our patients and carers. The GSF framework has helped to improve our understanding and communication with patients, carers, each other and the wider community teams.”
