Tea HP launches to bring NHS staff together at Truro Health Park
An innovative network is bringing NHS staff closer together at Truro Health Park, all thanks to a simple idea over tea and coffee.
Bringing People Together
Tea HP is a voluntary network designed to help NHS colleagues from different teams and services connect on a more personal level. Staff sign up and are randomly paired each month with another individual from the health park. The pair then arrange a time to meet for a tea, coffee or slice of cake, with no expectation to talk about work.
The aim is to create informal connections, encourage collaboration and strengthen professional relationships across healthcare in Truro.
Inspired by a Simple Idea
The network was developed by child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) team manager, Henry Lewis, who was inspired by a monthly networking meet at his wife’s workplace.
“Connection and integrated working are an enormously efficient way to improve outcomes for those who use our services,” explains Henry.
“A joined-up health and care system creates a more seamless experience for people who need support in Cornwall. It takes a bit of bravery to meet someone new, but we cannot ignore the benefits of creating new connections and relationships. Teams are supported by senior managers to take part, so it really is just waiting on those who are willing to give it a go!”
Staff Response
The response from NHS staff so far has been positive. Participants say the monthly meet ups have helped raise awareness of services they didn’t know existed, as well as boosting confidence in reaching out to other teams for referrals, advice and guidance.
Milena Fajer, a CAMHS mental health support worker, said:
“Henry is our team manager. He explained his idea of Tea HP, what it would involve and what its purpose was, and wanted to know whether the team would be interested in doing it.
“I thought that it sounded amazing. I loved the idea of meeting with other professionals and getting to know new people. It is an exciting initiative.”
Support From Leadership
The programme has also gained support from senior figures. Derek Thomas, place director for mid-Cornwall, commented:
“Henry has been so positive and committed to our work in developing our integrated neighbourhood team for Truro. This is just one example of how he is encouraging others to build relationships, work together and build a one team ethic. I hope we get more people to sign up, to get to know one another and to share their diverse experience and knowledge across Truro health Park.”
Henry added: “Effective integrated care starts with strong relationships and collaboration. This initiative is a small but meaningful step in that direction.”
The NHS People Promise in Action
Tea HP reflects the values of the NHS People Promise, which pledges to create compassionate, inclusive teams that learn and grow together.
With feedback already highlighting its benefits, Tea HP is shaping up to be more than just a chat over tea — it is becoming a valuable way to strengthen healthcare connections in Truro.
