Two bereavement midwives from the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) have been shortlisted for the Mariposa Awards, which recognise the outstanding work of NHS and community workers providing bereavement care and support.

Honouring a Lifetime of Dedication

Karen Stoyles, who dedicated over 47 years to the NHS before retiring from RCHT at the end of February, has been shortlisted for the Lifetime Achievement Award. Her career has been marked by decades of compassionate care for families experiencing the loss of a baby.

Claire Moors has been nominated for the Bereavement Midwife Award, highlighting her continued commitment to supporting families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Recognition from a Global Charity

Speaking about the nominations, Claire said:

“Karen and I are both honoured to have been nominated for these prestigious awards. The Mariposa Trust is an internationally recognised charity that campaigns for the provision of better support to families who have gone through the trauma of baby loss in pregnancy, birth, or infancy.

“Karen and I have always considered it a privilege to work with families who trust us to look after them and their babies in difficult and challenging circumstances for them. For me to be nominated by a family for this award is so touching and humbling, and I dedicate my nomination to all the families we work with every day at RCHT.”

Mariposa Ball and Awards Ceremony

The awards will be presented at the Mariposa Ball and Awards, the flagship fundraising event for the Mariposa Trust. This leading bereavement support charity provides resources, services, and support to over 50,000 people each week across the UK and globally.

The ceremony will take place in London on Saturday 15th March, where the winners will be announced.
