Beach Access Warning: Coastguard Responds to Incident at Bedruthan Steps
At 16:13 on Sunday, 8th September, the HM Coastguard Padstow team was called out to investigate reports of two adults and a dog potentially at risk of being cut off by the tide at Bedruthan Steps. This marked the third tasking of the day for the team, who were alerted by a concerned informant.
No Access to Beach After Rock Fall
It’s worth noting that there is currently no access to the beach via the steps following a rock fall. The steps have been closed off with a padlocked gate secured by the National Trust. Visitors are reminded to respect these safety measures and avoid attempting to access the beach via the closed steps.
Tide Warnings Ignored?
Upon arrival, Coastguard Rescue Officers spoke with the first informant and established the last known location of the individuals. The officers then took up various vantage points to monitor the situation until the group safely exited the beach.
A similar incident occurred on Saturday, 31st August, when concerns were raised for a family on the same beach. The family made their way to the top of the steps, where team members let them through the locked gate. They were also given safety advice, and the gate was secured by the National Trust.
Stay Safe and Be Informed
Coastguard teams have been busy responding to incidents in the area, highlighting the importance of checking tide times and following safety advice.
If you’re planning a visit to Cornwall’s beaches, make sure to stay informed and always prioritise your safety and if you see someone in trouble call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
