Padstow Lifeboat Escorts Fishing Vessel Taking On Water

RNLI volunteer crews from Padstow and Rock were called into action on Tuesday 10th February after a fishing vessel was reported to be taking on water off Stepper Point.

Padstow Lifeboat launched at 7.40pm. Rock RNLI launched slightly earlier at 7.36pm following an immediate tasking request from Falmouth Coastguard. Rescue 924 Coastguard helicopter was also sent to the scene.

The 10 metre fishing vessel was south west of Stepper Point and making its way towards Padstow.

Rock RNLI Stands By

On arrival, Rock RNLI Helm Charlie Toogood, alongside crew members Lauren Williams and Martin Davis, stood by the casualty vessel in case the two fishermen on board needed to abandon ship.

Once the situation was assessed and it was established the boat would make it back to harbour under its own steam, Rescue 924 was stood down.

Escorted To Harbour

Padstow Lifeboat escorted the vessel to Padstow. Once in the harbour, Padstow lifeboat crew placed a salvage pump aboard and began dewatering operations, refloating the fishing boat.

After the vessel was safely moored, Rock’s volunteer crew were stood down and returned to station. Their lifeboat, PJS, was washed down, refuelled and ready for service again by 9.25pm.

Padstow Lifeboat also returned to station and was refuelled and ready for service by 10.15pm.
