Community Engagement Day to Discuss Par Desalination Plant Proposal

In an effort to foster community involvement and share concerns about South West Water’s proposed desalination plant in Par, Friends Of Par Beach is hosting an Information Open Day and fundraiser. Scheduled for Saturday, 16 March 2024, from 10:30 to 14:30, at Par Scout Hall, Moorland Road, PL24 2PA, the event aims to not only raise awareness about the proposal but also gather funds to cover associated costs such as printing, and hall hire.

The day promises to be an informative session where attendees can learn more about the desalination plant’s potential environmental impacts and the reasons behind the significant apprehension surrounding its development. South West Water’s initiative is under scrutiny due to questions about the necessity of the project at this time and the substantial environmental threats it may pose.

To engage a wide audience, the event will feature a variety of activities including a children’s area, and the provision of cake, tea, and coffee for attendees. Additionally, pipeline route maps will be available for viewing, offering a detailed perspective on the project’s geographical implications. Donation buckets will also be placed around the venue to support the cause.

The open day is a call to the community to come together, share their thoughts, and discuss what actions can be taken in response to the desalination proposal.
