Art Tribute to Penlee Lifeboat Disaster Opens This Weekend
A new exhibition honouring the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster will open at Paul Church near Mousehole on Saturday 25th October, running until Sunday 2nd November.
A Moving Tribute Beside the Solomon Browne Memorial
The display will feature song lyrics by Freddie Bates and paintings by Trevor Thorne, both of whom serve as Deputy Launching Authorities (DLAs) at Penlee Lifeboat Station. Their work will be shown beside the Solomon Browne Memorial, offering a poignant reminder of the crew who lost their lives saving others at sea.
Music and Art with Purpose
Freddie has written a song about the Solomon Browne, which has been recorded and released by the Welsh National Opera. The song is described as hauntingly beautiful and captures the enduring emotion surrounding the tragedy.
Alongside the main pieces, there will also be other paintings and photographs available to purchase, with proceeds helping to save lives at sea at Penlee.
The exhibition is open to all, welcoming visitors to reflect, remember and support the lifesaving work that continues at Penlee today.
