Fallen Trees Cause Disruption Across Penzance After Storm Goretti

Penzance Council has warned of widespread disruption across the town following Storm Goretti, with a number of fallen trees still causing problems this morning.

The council said several roads remain blocked by fallen trees, with disruption expected on both roads and public transport throughout the day.

Penlee Park and museum closed

Several large trees have come down in Penlee Park, which is currently closed while safety checks and clearance work take place. Penlee House Gallery & Museum is also closed today.

Residents are being asked to avoid the area while work continues.

How to report fallen trees and emergencies

Trees blocking the highway should be reported to Cornwall Council on 0300 1234 222.

The council has also shared the following emergency contact details:

  • Gas emergencies (Wales and West): If you smell gas, call 0800 111 999

  • Water leaks (South West Water): 0800 230 0561

  • Power cuts (National Grid): 105 or 0800 6783 105

  • Social care emergencies (Safeguarding Adults and Children): 0300 1231 116

  • Highways emergencies or hazardous issues: 0300 1234 222

  • Flooding or drainage issues on public roads: 0300 1234 222

  • Environment Agency Floodline (24-hour advice): 0345 988 1188

Support for Cornwall Housing tenants

Cornwall Housing tenants can report emergency repairs on 0300 1234 161 if there is a serious risk to health and safety, major structural damage, or a prolonged loss of essential services such as gas, water or electricity.

Warm space available for older residents

Pengarth Day Centre has confirmed it is open today for elderly residents who need a warm space. The centre has also said it can deliver food to people in their homes if needed.

The council has also confirmed that damaged street lights on Penzance promenade have been reported to Cornwall Council.

Residents are being urged to take care while travelling and to report any urgent issues using the appropriate contact numbers.
