Historic galleon docks in Cornwall for first time as part of European tour

The Galeón Andalucía, a striking replica of a 16th-century Spanish galleon, has arrived in Penzance today, 25th June, and will open its decks to the public from Wednesday 26th to Sunday 29th June at Penzance Harbour.

This is the first time the ship has visited the town, and it forms part of its grand European 2025 tour, which includes ports across Spain, France, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, before it crosses the Atlantic to begin an American tour later this year.

A floating museum of maritime history

Built in Punta Umbría (Huelva) with meticulous historical accuracy, the Galeón is a 55-metre-long wooden ship made from iroko and pine, with six decks and nearly 1,000 square metres of sail area across seven sails.

The ship is a faithful recreation of the Spanish galleons that sailed from the Andalusian coasts between the 16th and 18th centuries, connecting continents as they navigated the Atlantic, Caribbean, American coasts and the Pacific.

Now, this extraordinary vessel is sailing as a floating museum, sharing the stories of these legendary ships and their crews, as well as showcasing Spanish maritime heritage.

Over 100,000 nautical miles travelled

The Galeón has already sailed over 100,000 nautical miles, visiting major ports on four continents, including London, Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila, New York and Quebec. It continues its mission today with a young crew who still sail the world, sharing tales from their long voyages.
