Mayor of Penzance Re-Elected for Historic Third Term
Stephen Reynolds makes history at St John’s Hall
Stephen Reynolds has been re-elected as Mayor of Penzance for the third year running, making him the first person in 60 years to hold the post for three consecutive terms.
At the 45th Annual Mayor Choosing Ceremony, held on Monday 19th May at St John’s Hall, Stephen received a standing ovation as he officially took office again. The newly elected Penzance Council made the decision unanimously.
Addressing the hall full of guests, Stephen described the moment as “a great privilege” and spoke about the role of councillors:
“It’s something special being a councillor. I took that step four years ago, and I didn’t know where that journey would lead. I certainly didn’t think it would lead here – neither did some of you, I think! But here I am.”
“We do this free of charge”
Stephen continued:
“A council is a group of citizens who step forward to give something to their community. In our case as town councillors, we do this free of charge, because we want to do things for our community, make our community a better place, and support our community.
“We pool our resources to provide services to local people, to help those people who are struggling in difficulty, and to protect our community against powerful vested interests, who might not be acting in our best interests.”
New appointments for 2025
Cllr Nicole Broadhurst was elected Deputy Mayor, with Cllrs Bonnie Jackson and Penny Osborne named Civic Deputies. Phil Northcott was also reappointed as Town Crier to loud applause.
