Penlee Crewman Qualifies as All Weather Lifeboat Navigator

Penlee volunteer crewman Treeve Perry has qualified as an All-Weather Lifeboat Navigator after completing months of training.

Treeve completed his final assessment on 4 February 2026 during an exercise aboard Penlee’s Ivan Ellen. The assessment was carried out by RNLI assessor, trainer and former Sennen Cove lifeboat coxswain Ollie George.

Final Assessment at Sea

During the exercise, Treeve was given several scenarios to work through. He demonstrated his ability to use all the navigation instruments onboard and passed the assessment.

The qualification means Treeve can now progress to further training within the lifeboat service.

Next Steps for Treeve

Penlee coxswain Patch Harvey said the qualification was good news for the station, as it allows Treeve to move on to train as an Inshore Lifeboat Helmsman and a Severn Class Coxswain.

“It’s great news for the station as Treeve can now go forward to train as an Inshore Lifeboat Helmsman and a Severn Class Coxswain, Treeve’s a popular crewman here with a lot of boating experience having been a fisherman from a young age. I would especially like to thank Ollie George who has really helped Treeve with his guidance and knowledge over many weeks.”

The training and assessment were completed with support from the RNLI at Penlee Lifeboat Station.
