Police Investigating Series of Arsons in Penzance
Police in Penzance are investigating a series of arsons after several bin fires were reported across the town in recent weeks.
Fires Reported Near Station and Cinema
Officers say a number of the fires have taken place around the train and bus station area. The incidents are believed to have been started deliberately by suspects setting alight cardboard left outside at night.
One of the fires happened in the early hours of Monday 8th December at The Savoy Cinema on Causewayhead. Police received a call from the fire service reporting that rubbish bins and cardboard at the front of the cinema had been set alight. The blaze caused extensive damage to the front of the building.
Police Appeal for Information
Neighbourhood Team Leader Sergeant John Scrimgeour said: “We are aware of and are investigating a number of fires being set in bins around Penzance.
“We will be increasing our presence in the town and are already following various lines of enquiry to identify those responsible.
“Setting any fire in a public place creates a huge risk and can easily result in fatalities should it spread.
“Anybody with any relevant CCTV or information about the fire at The Savoy, or any of the others around Penzance is asked to get in touch with us via 101 or our website quoting 50250313613”.
Police are urging anyone with footage or information to contact them.
