RNLI Penlee Lifeboat Station to Hold Open Day on 25th August
RNLI Penlee Lifeboat Station has announced its next major event – an open day on 25th August 2025 – offering visitors a rare chance to explore both of its lifeboat stations and get close to its operational lifeboats.
Explore the Lifeboats Up Close
From 10am, visitors can board and look around the all-weather Severn Class Lifeboat Ivan Ellen and see the B class Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Mollie and Ivor Dent. RNLI volunteers will be on hand to show people around the boats and answer questions about the station and its lifeboats.
Visit the Iconic Penlee Point Station
Both the RNLI lifeboat station at Newlyn and the slipway building at Penlee Point near Mousehole will be open to the public. The Penlee Point building was the home of the Solomon Browne and her crew, who were tragically lost on 19th December 1981.
Now a Grade 2 listed building, the former station has been preserved for the nation and remains an iconic part of Cornish history. Visitors will be able to experience its unique and emotional atmosphere and learn about the history of the former RNLI lifeboat station.
Live Broadcast from the Event
For the first time, Coast FM – the local community radio station for West Cornwall – will be broadcasting live from Penlee Lifeboat Day, sharing the atmosphere of the event and learning more about the Penlee lifeboats, the crew and the RNLI’s work in Mount’s Bay and beyond.
Penlee Lifeboat Open Day takes place on 25th August from 10am.
