Helicopter Called After Surfer Trapped Near Rocks at Perranporth
A helicopter rescue was carried out at Perranporth Beach on Christmas Eve after reports of a surfer caught in a rip close to rocks.
Emergency call at Droskyn Point
St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team was tasked at 12.39pm on Wednesday 24th December 2025 following reports of a surfer in difficulty at Droskyn Point, Perranporth.
St Agnes Lifeboat was already on scene and attempted to extract the surfer. However, due to swell conditions and the proximity of rocks, a rescue from the water was not achievable.
Helicopter winch rescue
Assistance was requested from Coastguard Helicopter 924. The helicopter was able to winch down to the casualty and safely land them onshore.
The coastguard has reminded members of the public to stay well back from cliff edges while a helicopter rescue is taking place, as the downdraft created by the aircraft is extremely powerful and can be dangerous.
